The technology which is being used consists of mainly the modification of human voice into digital signals and these signals are sent over a broadband type of internet connection. This digital signals that are hence formed are sent as packets in a packet switching network. There are many features of this network which are utilised by the technology of VoIP. This network is also quite efficient in the sense that a call when made using VoIP fetches extremely low costs when compared to a call made on a standard PSTN system. The VoIP Phone service is therefore one of the most modern facilities available to the user in terms of the speed of connection and the cost that is involved.

Voice over IP or VoIP service is actually simple in functioning. If an example is taken of a user making a call then the first thing that happens is a signal received by PBX as soon as the receiver is picked up. The corresponding action sees the dial tone being sent to the caller informing him that a connection has been made. Then the process that takes places is quite similar to making a call over a normal line, however many things take place in the back end. The first thing that takes places is the validity check of the number being dialed and then the number is given an IP address by a device called an IP host. After this a constant connection (called a session) is formed between the PBX system of the caller and the destination’s IP host. Finally when a conversation starts between the person who is making the call and the person to whom the call is made, the process of data packets (mentioned earlier) takes place in the form of being packets sent and received. This happens between the PBX and the IP host and it is in here that the process of transmission of data takes place.

This is a general overview of the process taking place when a call is being made and a subsequent conversation is getting started using the Internet phone VoIP service. There are many more interesting features of the VoIP service, which are responsible for making it an easy to use technology. One of the primary features is the type of phone that is required for making a VoIP call. The basic thing that is required is an ATA(Analogue Telephone Adaptor) which is sued to convert the voice of the person into a digital signal that can be sent using a broadband modem.

The VoIP phone service is therefore quite an interesting concept which has changed many aspects of human communication and has also improved many basic features involved in making phone calls. This technology has now invaded almost all the parts of the world with considerable human population. Therefore higher the number of people, greater will be the need to talk and hence higher will be the chances of selecting this technology for communication due to its advanced features. This is indeed the case with more and more VoIP service providers entering into the business of providing this technology to the common man. Most of the providers that are providing this service have simplified the level of accessibility to this service and therefore the need to talk has been taken care of in the form of provision of this technology.
